Unzip Files Online

A ZIP file is a container that bundles many files together and compresses them so they take up less space and travel as a single download. To use what's inside, you have to extract (unzip) it. On a home computer that's easy, but on a work laptop, a school PC, a borrowed machine or a phone you often can't install WinRAR, 7-Zip or any other program — and that's exactly when people get stuck with a ZIP they can't open.

This tool unzips files entirely inside your web browser. You drop the .zip in, it reads the archive's internal directory, lists every file, and lets you download each one. No software, no account, and crucially no upload: the archive is opened on your own device, so confidential work documents never leave your computer.

A ZIP file ends with a small 'central directory' that lists every entry and where it sits inside the archive. The tool reads that directory, then decompresses each entry using the DEFLATE algorithm — the same method that created the ZIP — reconstructing the original files in memory. From there each file is offered to you as a normal download.

Because everything runs locally, speed depends on your device and the size of the archive, not on an internet connection. A large ZIP full of photos will take a few seconds to expand; a handful of documents is instant.

Reach for an in-browser unzipper when you can't or don't want to install software: on managed corporate machines, on public or library computers, on a phone or tablet, or when you simply don't trust a random 'free unzip' program from a search result.

It handles ordinary ZIP archives, which cover the vast majority of downloads. Password-protected ZIPs and other archive formats like RAR or 7z use different schemes and need a dedicated tool. If your file ends in .rar or .7z rather than .zip, that's why it won't open here.
